In a supplementary manner, it grows other grains and develops cattle activities managing a herd of 10,000 heads of beef cattle with a production pattern of breeding, rearing, wintering and fattening in pens.

On the other hand, Casarone has shareholding in other companies related to the business and that support its activity as Arrozur, Galofer and Corrales.

Founded more than half a century ago, CASARONE is one of the companies of the rice sector that has the longest professional record in the region and the first vertically integrated company.

Our story

  • 1937

    Nicolás León Casarone was the forefather of industrial activity in the town of José Pedro Varela, department of Lavalleja, founding a factory of sunflower oil.
  • 1950

    In that decade, he decided to undertake the rice activity and he placed a small mill next to the oil mill at José Pedro Varela.
  • 1959

    He started agricultural activities with the cultivation of rice.
  • 1960-70

    The rice production increase in the 1960s led to the incorporation of the first rice dryers and the purchase of fields for his own production. During the 70s the storage capacity increased and in the successive decades this program of expansion was materialized at increasing rates.
  • 1977

    Together with other rice mills, Arrozur was created, a plant made for the preparing parboiled rice.
  • 1984

    An irrigation dam associated to our firm and called Corrales S.A. was built.
  • 1989

    The company started its expansion process towards other departments in the country. A mill was installed in the city of Río Branco, department of Cerro Largo.
  • 1994

    Within Arrozur premises and together with associated rice mills, a plant to generate rice oil was installed.
  • 1996

    In order to place the company closer to producers and the points of departure of export products, a new mill was installed in the city of Artigas.
  • 2007

    Once again, within Arrozur premises and together with the other rice mills, a plant to generate biodiesel was created.
  • 2008

    The company acquired new fields and began a strong process of expansion of its industrial capacity.
  • 2010

    In association with other rice mills, Galofer S.A., a power generator based on the burning of rice husk, was established.

Associated Companies

Arrozur S.A.

It was founded in 1977 for the production of Parboiled rice. The processing capacity is 150,000 tons per year of paddy rice. It also produces rice oil with an annual capacity of 2,000 tons of refined oil and biodiesel with a production capacity of 5,000 liters per day.

Corrales S.A.

It was founded in 1984. It is a dam for the irrigation of 3,200 hectares of fields that produce rice for the industry.

Galofer S.A.

This is a power generation plant of 14 megawatts which is based on the burning of rice husk and has been operating since 2010. It contributes to the environment by eliminating the rice husk as industrial waste using it in a positive way in order to generate energy.
